Online Placement Exam

Who needs to take the Online Placement Exam?

Any student who simply needs to find out which French course to enroll in. The Department requires all students to take the Online Placement Exam.

Any student who wishes to confirm AP credit and enroll in a French course
In this case, you will also need to enroll and complete the qualifying course in order to be awarded AP credit. (See Earning AP credit & Placing out of the College Language Requirement).

Who does not need to take the Online Placement Exam?

Any student who has never studied French
Simply enroll in FREN-1001 Introductory French I or FREN-1011 Intensive Basic French (a one-semester, intensive course equivalent to French 1001 and 1002). Advanced Speakers of Spanish may enroll in French-1009 French for Spanish Speakers (a one-semester course equivalent to French 1001 and 1002). 

Any student who is a native speaker and writer of French
