Georgetown in France: Summer Study Abroad Opportunities

The Department of French & Francophone Studies offers two specialized summer study abroad opportunities: one in Tours and the other in Tours and Paris. Each program has been specifically designed to help Georgetown students both improve their level of language proficiency and gain a deeper understanding of modern French society.

The summer program in Tours is open to any student who has had at least one semester of French. Primarily focusing on language learning, students take courses at the renowned Institut de Touraine where they are able to rapidly improve their proficiency in the language all the while experiencing contemporary French culture firsthand. The Tours program lasts for six weeks (typically mid June to the end of July) and allows students to earn six credits. It also fulfills the study abroad requirement for French majors and minors.

Our department equally offers a hybrid Tours/Paris summer program for students who have already completed Advanced French II (FREN 102) or Intensive Advanced French II (FREN 112). In this six-week program, students spend the first two weeks in Tours where they participate in a cultural workshop (alongside their Tours program counterparts) and go on various excursions highlighting the richness of this French region. Then, the program transitions to Paris where students take specialized classes on business, politics, and culture at Paris’ Chambre de commerce et d’industrie. The Tours+Paris program lasts for six weeks (typically mid June to the end of July) and allows students to earn six credits. It also fulfills the study abroad requirement for French majors and minors.
